I thought I would share my pics from my first day in Europe. I don't remember what these pictures are but they're pretty nonetheless:
Here is the lovely bed I had waiting for me. Thanks for your hospitality, Tim & Amber. I can't wait to crawl in and sleep for a few hours, maybe a few days.
It's protest season. This is taken outside the Ministry of Agriculture building. Laura says when the weather is nice, there are always people outside protesting something.
This is the front entrance to the Atocha train station. There is a rain forest inside. I'm hoping to go back and take some pictures there.
The Prado Museum
Grand entrance to the Parque del Retiro
Interestingly-manicured trees in the park.
Fountains and pond inside the Parque del Retiro
Laura riding some crazy contraption at the playground
Trying my hand at it...unsuccessfully
The old city gates
The Ministry of Communications building.
Entrance to the Plaza de Mayor
Plaza de Mayor. This reminds me of the place where they shot the movie Vantage Point.
One of many cathedrals
Another cathedral. This one took 300 years to finish. It is beautiful outside, but inside is all art deco, which in this case is quite unsightly. Also, the building is retro-fit with Bose speakers and 32" flat panel screens...presumably for their contemporary service.
Front door to above cathedral
The Royal Palace
As of this writing, I have been up for the last 27 hours. I didn't sleep well the night before I left and only dozed off on the 7-and-a-half hour flight from Miami to Madrid. I'm really tired and I'm going to bed.
Beautiful pictures. Will be waiting for more. Enjoy Spain for all of us, you are close as some of us will ever get!
ReplyDeleteHey-I recognize some of those pics, if not all of them! Enjoy & hope you get some good sleep!
